• • Name for the species <Ricinus communis> of the Euphorbiaceae family. This is a tree or shrub that is not native to Mexico. In La Ventosa it reaches a height of 2 meters and is found in abundance along the sides of roads. It produces yellowish-white flowers and thorny green fruit. Children used to cut the largest leaves off the tree and pretend they were umbrellas. It is currently not used for medicinal purposes, but traditionally in the Central Valleys area people would cover their necks with the leaves to treat mumps.
  • La higuerilla, el ricino, la palma de Cristo. Se denomina así a la especie <Ricinus communis>, de la familia Euphorbiaceae. Árbol o arbusto introducido a (no nativo de) México que en La Ventosa alcanza una altura de 2 metros. Abunda a lo largo de los caminos. Sus flores son de color blanco amarillento y sus frutos son verdes y espinosos. Los niños solían cortar las hojas más grandes de esta planta para jugar con ellas como si fueran paraguas. Actualmente no se le atribuye ninguna propiedad medicinal aunque se reporta que anteriormente en la zona de Valles Centrales se colocaban las hojas sobre el cuello a manera de tratamiento contra las paperas.
