It is an abundant woody vine with purple, bell-shaped flowers that measure up to 5 centimeters long. It produces a long, flat and thin green fruit. There is also a vine root known as <xcu be'te> or 'skunk root' that is considered to have medicinal properties. It is commonly crushed and used to open up the nostrils or crushed and soaked in alcohol to treat rheumatism. There is some disagreement among those familiar with the plant as to whether this root belongs to the species described here or to a different species.
