• • Name for <Karwinskia humboldtiana> of the Rhamnaceae family, an abundant tree that reaches a height of 2.5 meters. The back side of its leaves have distinctive brown lines over the veins. It produces yellow flowers. Despite the Spanish name <pimienta> meaning 'pepper', this species does not produce the familiar edible black pepper used as a spice (<Pimienta dioica> of the Myrtaceae family). In fact, some structures of this species are toxic, in particular the seeds.
