• • áThis term has been documented as referring to two species of the genus <Bursera>: <Bursera schlechtendalii> and <Bursera ovalifolia>. These are trees with a reddish bark that peels off in thin strips. <Bursera schlechtendalii> has simple leaves and produces resin that emits an aroma similar to mint. <Bursera ovalifolia> grows to a larger size and has leaves composed of smaller leaves. The name <yaga la guitu> can also be used to refer to a category of trees belonging to at least four different families: Euphorbiaceae, Anacardiaceae, Burseraceae and Fouquieriaceae. The species that make up this category are all characterized by a similar structure. They have thick branches and bifurcate in a slightly sinuous way. The name <yaga la guitu> may be modified to offer more precision (see corresponding entries). There are also variants of the name, including <yaalla guitu>.
